{"id":1189,"date":"2013-06-07T01:36:06","date_gmt":"2013-06-07T01:36:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/drmirkin.com\/recipes\/chafing.html"},"modified":"2020-01-23T00:24:50","modified_gmt":"2020-01-23T00:24:50","slug":"chafing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/drmirkin.com\/?p=1189","title":{"rendered":"Chafing Dish (or Crockpot) Chili"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Winter parties call for a huge pot of chili with all the trimmings!<br \/>\n<\/em><\/p>\n<p>2 large onions, chopped<br \/>\n2 green peppers, chopped<br \/>\n4 cloves garlic, chopped<br \/>\n3 tablespoons mild chili powder<br \/>\n1 tablespoon ground cumin<br \/>\n1\/2 teaspoon cinnamon<br \/>\n1\/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper or bottled hot sauce, or to taste<br \/>\n5 cups <a href=\"https:\/\/drmirkin.com\/recipes\/stock.html\">bouillon<\/a> (or bouillon + beer)<br \/>\n1 pound lentils<br \/>\n1 cup uncooked oatmeal or bulgur<br \/>\n2 28-ounce cans Italian plum tomatoes, undrained, broken up<\/p>\n<p>Combine all ingredients in a large pot and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat and simmer, stirring occasionally, 40-60 minutes, or until the lentils are tender. Turn off the heat and let the chili sit until ready to serve (or make ahead and refrigerate.)<\/p>\n<p>Reheat and transfer to a chafing dish, crockpot or other buffet serving dish.
