Paula Radcliffe holds the world’s record in the women’s marathon, has won the world championships in the marathon, half marathon and cross country, has won the European championship of 10,000 meters and cross country and the Commonwealth Games in the 5000 meters, has represented Great Britain in four Olympic games, and has won both the New York and London Marathons three times. She is married to her coach, Gary Lough, and has two children.
Jackie Joyner-Kersee was named the greatest female athlete of the 20th century by Sports Illustrated magazine.. Sports Illustrated for Women voted her the greatest female athlete of all time. She won three gold, one silver, and two bronze Olympic medals in Track and Field in four different Olympic Games, even though she spent much of her time playing basketball and scored 1,167 points for the woman’s basketball team at UCLA. She set the world record for the heptathlon in 1988 which may never be broken. She chose her parents and her coach well: her brother, Al Joyner, is an Olympic triple-jump champion and her coach, Bob Kersee, helped her to set world records and became her husband.
